A tribute

This year, we celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Marcel Proust's death and the thirtieth anniversary of Peyo's.

As a tribute to these two great artists, I made this little lettering as a wink.

A first version gave this :

And, as I'm really fond of justified text columns, here is a second version :

These are drafts, there will probably be a third version, with decoration and color!!!

If you like this kind of lettering and composition exercise, there are still a few places left for the online course on September 3 & 4. Information and registration here. Beware ! It's in French !!

Swedish challenge

For those of you who are not on instagram, I am currently participating in a little challenge launched by a group of Swedish women.

It's about calligraphy words or expressions in Swedish.

Here are my first realizations.

tindra which means "twinkle"

äntligen fredag which means "thanks god it's friday"

fika for "getting together over a cup of coffee"

WIFI code & contest

I have fun with lettering and after my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, I wanted to do something else without really knowing what.

And then I thought that this kind of lettering, not necessarily easy to decipher, could be useful. You're tired of not remembering your passwords or your wifi code but you don't want to display them too obviously? I can write them down for you!

As an example, here is a wifi code containing 8 lowercase letters, 9 uppercase letters, 2 special characters, 4 numbers and 3 latin abbreviations.

The first person to give me the right transcription as a comment on my french blog (go to the bottom of the page : https://cutt.ly/6WrOP1X) will receive the original of this code as well as a small filigree letter with the initial of his choice.

And to help you even more, here is a version of the same code without the decoration.

need glasses ?

To answer this question, you can test yourself with this Monoyer chart (it's the french version of the Snellen chart) in Art Nouveau style.

As usual, I couldn't help but put filigrees on it

Welcome

Welcome to little Alexandre, born last week.

To celebrate his birth, a filigree initial with, for once, a bit of color.

The garden of delights

I call it by this name because of the well-being it provides in exchange for the care we provide but it's just my garden.

Here is a calligraphic version in NEULAND variations which lists almost all the contents of the place.

And could I do it without filigrees?

Of course not, I even invented some new patterns for the occasion

And, for once, I put, not only color, but GREEN !!!!

Lots of different greens, mixed with red, blue, yellow, brown but still greens.

The scale is not always respected but the layouts and the general shape are.

Late Valentine

I shared this before the fateful date on social networks but I didn't take the time for those of you who are not affiliated with it.

So I'm fixing my mistake, with a little delay.

Variations

I've been very busy lately with my online courses and I haven't had much time to create new works even though I have (as always) a lot of projects in my cartons.

To make you wait, a few small letters with, once is customary, a little color (I admit, my palette is limited).

Apocalypse

 It's a bit trendy, isn't it?

In any case, while I was emptying my boxes, I found a version of chapter 12 of the Apocalypse made a few years ago.

There is rustica and uncial for the Latin version, the French version is in carolingian.

And there is colour, too much for my taste, which is why this work sleeps in a cardboard box.

Gravity, give it back to the weight of the earth...

Fourth and last version of my fragment of Rainer Maria Rilke's Sonnets to Orpheus that I was telling you about here.
The first inked version does not satisfy me so I changed for an intaglio lettering for the original version and a very small and elongated version for the French translation.

All this is done on watercolor paper, iron gall ink and Prussian blue.

Loneliness

It's been too long since I've posted a message on this blog. The fault is mine, mea culpa.
So here is a new work, it seems I can't get rid of the NEULAND lately.
It's a quote from Pascal Quignard, embossing on paper blackened with iron gall ink, insertion of golden patina by my wife.

loneliness, a precious stone, silence, darkness

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, the black of the paper is quite shiny and I couldn't get good pictures in any lighting.

Faut être malin

It was on hearing this serinerant slogan on the radio for the umpteenth time that I decided on my calligraphic occupation of confinement.
Most of my colleagues are involved in "challenges" and my gregarious instinct being what it is (ie non-existent), I had to find my own way.
So I compose from advertising slogans, one maxim a day.
Here is my production for the moment.
You'll tell me that it's nonsense and I'll tell you that you're absolutely right :-)
