Monogram

It's been a long time since I posted filigrees...

Here is a monogram made for a commission to make a tattoo (I think it's going to be painful).

The overall design is 15cm in diameter, acrylic paint on paper.

Late Valentine

 I shared this before the fateful date on social networks but I didn't take the time for those of you who are not affiliated with it.

So I'm fixing my mistake, with a little delay.

Variations

 I've been very busy lately with my online courses and I haven't had much time to create new works even though I have (as always) a lot of projects in my cartons.

To make you wait, a few small letters with, once is customary, a little color (I admit, my palette is limited).

Recycling

It's decided, I stop calligraphy and I move on to nail art.
What I produced this morning has absolutely no interest except the decoration of my thumb :-)

an original tie

I have finally finished the slate engraving started in November 2019.
It has a hole on the back that allows you to hang it on the wall or, if you prefer, to insert a fixation that will allow you to wear it proudly as a tie :-)

the engraving has been filled with acrylic paint and rust before being varnished.

Ars Longa

It's a tired old saying, but it's nonetheless true.
And it's also my way of telling why I haven't posted for far too long.

I first took part in the book fair in Montreuil-Bellay, with courses given before and after the fair, then I got back home and, since then, I've been working on the next courses I'm going to give, the first on the list abroad being the one on the second bible of Charles the Bald in Welkenraedt next April.

So here's a reinterpretation of the decorated capital letters that will be taught during the course (I still have to create the minuscule model so don't expect any new posts in the near future).

Yes, well, sorry, I'm getting ahead of New Year's Eve or I'm late for Christmas, it looks like I'm drunk and not even 11:00 in the morning, it's not serious.

So I get it together, I try to stay decent for a few minutes but you will admit that putting the finishing touches to a composition started more than a year ago is enough to make you happy, even if it is expressed in the form of a song by Hervé Vilard... (hopefully, if you read my blog in english you may not know about this song, it seems that an english version with quite different lyrics exists)

Here, the rust has embedded itself, the varnish is applied, I love it (unlike my wife who finds it very ugly, we can't agree all the time).

As a reminder, the slate piece is about 30cm high

After about 12 hours, the monogram is finally finished.

It is about 10cm wide, as a finishing touch, as you can see on the first picture, I added a layer of arabic gum on the letters to give them more shine.

Weekends are not long enough.
After 6 hours of work (I don't count the preparatory work), here is the status of the last monogram in progress. There is still a long way to go!

I couldn't stay on my failure.
So here's version 2, in red!

I much prefer, the two shades of red are fused enough so that the filigree patterns are not too obvious.

Black & White

You know my love of color. Well I was a little tired of doing things in black on a white background so I decided to change.
This time it's white on black background ;-)

OLD STUFF - Guillevic

I'm going to post here the most interesting (or so I believe) works I made these last 2 years and that were only posted on the french version of the blog.
I hope you will like it even if it can be considered as old stuff.

The concerned posts titles will start by "OLD STUFF".

To begin with, here is a set of short poems by Guillevic (french poet of the XXth century).

I made them on paper, using the same script (humanistic minuscule) and the same design. The adornment in the circle is supposed to echo the text.

Subproduct of an ongoing work

Kakemono or makimono ?

My latest work, filigrees made with acrylic paint on cloth, is going on.
I don't have any plan, I just draw things as they come. But, I were to make a kakemono and now, I feel it looks much better as a makimono. As it isn't finished yet, I can still change my mind.

What do you think ?

Filigrees on cloth

It's been a long time since I last worked on cloth and, right now, I'm just longing for it...

I forgot how long it is to get things done on cloth, this is what I achieved after 3 hours of work :-)

Declaration

Work in progress. Little by little, my latest work is coming to its end.

Still have to write the title and its decoration, hope to finish this before the weekend...

Ar Rannou

I've just finished a work started years ago, that was left unfinished because of an overdose of knotwork.

It is a breton text from the Barzaz Breizh, a collection of songs published by Th. de La Villemarqué in the XIXth century.

I used a semi uncial for the text, séparating each verse by a knotwork panel and ending by the title in drawn capitals inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospel. To breathe modernity into the work, I took colors different from the ones used historically, using only earth pigments (Sienna, Umbria, ...).
